Optimist

We have three training groups for Optimist sailors. Optimist dinghies can be sailed by children between the ages of 7 and 15. Many successful competitive sailors have started their careers with Optimist (such as Silja Lehtinen and Oskari Muhonen from EPS).

Coaching fees

  • Optimist Blue&Green non-competitive training group €330/season (training once a week, Mondays or Thursdays) + €150 equipment charge for dinghies
  • Optimist Blue&Green training group €700/season (training twice a week, Mondays and Thursdays) + right to use an EPS dinghy (€150 equipment charge) + opportunity to enter Cadet regattas
  • Optimist Red&Black training group €930/season (training twice a week, Tuesdays and Fridays)  + Cadet regattas of of the Finnish Optimist Dinghy Association (must have your own dinghy)
  • Optimist competitive group €1150/season (training 4–5 times a week) incl. Ranking/Cadet regattas in the competition calendar of the Finnish Optimist Dinghy Association (must have your own dinghy)

The training fee and equipment charge are paid in advance  in two instalments through Holvi before season start and  in August. The season begins in May and ends in October.

The ‘Blue & Green’  group

This group is suitable for beginners who have been on the Sailing School’s elementary and intermediate course or anyone at the same level.

Optimist ‘Red & Black’

Red-Black is suitable for the more advanced sailor who wants to learn new sailing skills as well as the basics of racing. The group trains towards the Optimists’ Cadet regattas.

Optimist Competitive

The Competitive group trains 3–4 times a week, and competes in the Finnish Ranking class, aiming to achieve Nordic, European or World Championship level.
