Dinghy sailing courses
The dinghy sailing course is designed for all swimming-proficient youth and adults interested in dinghy sailing. The course boats are single-handed ILCA (Laser) dinghies.
The courses are taught in Finnish, but instruction can also be provided in English if needed.
Information about courses for children (ages 7–13) can be found here.
Beginners’ Courses
During the beginner’s course, you will learn the basics, such as getting your boat ready for sailing, starting off from the shore, the basics skills of sailing, and returning to shore. After completing the course, you will have the necessary skills to move safely on the water and to continue in the club’s training groups.
No prior sailing experience is required. All skills are practiced together over the course weekend. If you already have some sailing experience, we recommend exploring our advanced course options.
Advanced Courses
The advanced sailing course is ideal for sailors who have previously completed a beginner course or already possess similar sailing skills and wish to continue developing their abilities.
The advanced course focuses on more advanced sailing techniques and for example learning the basics of racing. It provides excellent preparation for continuing in the club’s training groups.
Schedule
Saturday: from 9 am until 5 pm
Sunday: from 9 am until 4 pm
The course takes two days. We’re on the water in the morning and afternoon, coming ashore in between for a short lunch break and later for a coffee break (provided by the participants themselves).
Equipment
During the course, we aim to spend as much time on the water as possible. In dinghy sailing, getting wet, and even capsizing, is part of the learning experience. Participants should pack plenty of clothing for different weather conditions, along with several sets of spare clothes.
Safety
Each sailing course has at least two sailing instructors, depending on the number of participants. All instructors are trained in safety procedures.
Instructors plan each day’s program according to the weather conditions, but course days are not cancelled due to bad weather. If sailing time on the water is significantly reduced because of the weather, participants will have the opportunity to make up for it in the evening training sessions the following week.
