Emergency first aid course for boaters

The Espoo Yacht Club is organizing an emergency first aid course for boaters, aimed at increasing the courage and skills to help in life-threatening situations.

The course does not require prior first aid skills. If your First Aid 1 certification is about to expire, you can renew your certification once by attending the emergency first aid course.

Course content of boating-focused emergency first aid (8 lessons):

• Assisting in accident situations on land and at sea
• Encountering an unconscious person and providing first aid
• Resuscitation, including adult and drowning resuscitation (AED)
• Severe bleeding and shock, including the use of a tourniquet
• Medical emergencies (low blood sugar, cerebrovascular disturbances, chest pain, fainting, allergic reactions, seizures, breathing difficulties, and heat-related illnesses)
• Hypothermia
• Drowning
• Brief review of the most common boating-related injuries (e.g., head injuries, slips)
