Basic First Aid Course for Boaters March 21-22, 2026
Content of the boating-focused basic first aid course (16 lessons):
The basic first aid course is a 2-day course consisting of 16 lessons (one lesson = 45 minutes) covering the most common first aid situations. The course is delivered with a focus on boating, and the curriculum is based on ERC guidelines and Käypä Hoito recommendations, following the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health (STM) instructions for first aid courses.
- Helping in accident situations on land and at sea
- Encountering and providing first aid for an unconscious person
- Resuscitation, including adult and drowning victim resuscitation (PPED)
- Severe bleeding and shock, including the use of a tourniquet
- Medical emergencies such as low blood sugar, cerebrovascular disorders, chest pain, fainting, allergic reactions, seizures, breathing difficulties, and heat-related illnesses
- Various accidents and injuries such as wounds, burns, electrical injuries, head injuries, eye injuries, nosebleeds, dental injuries, minor injuries, joint injuries/soft tissue injuries
- Getting lost and fractures
- Boat first aid kit
- Hypothermia
- Drowning

Location: Espoo Yacht Club in Nuottaniemi, at Nuottatie 19.
Instructor: Meri Haahtela or Tommi Kilpeläinen, who also work in sea rescue both as instructors and volunteer sea rescuers.
Price: 135€ per person (incl. 25.5% VAT) for EPS and Espoon Merikoulu members
