Training event: sails and rigging

Date: 30.09.2026

How do you keep sails and rigging safe, reliable, and in good condition year after year?

You are warmly welcome to join an evening training session focusing on the sails and rigging of sailing boats on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from 6–7 PM. The experts will be Matti Luhtala (EfxSails sailmaker) and Miikka Wakkola (Venevalmennus).

The topics of the evening cover issues relevant to all sailors, so anyone can attend – whether you are a competitive sailor or a cruising sailor.

Sail section

Examples of sail maintenance and repair as well as the most common areas of wear and damage
The key maintenance tasks you can do yourself – and when it’s wise to turn to a sailmaker

Rigging section

Examples of well-tuned and safe rigging, and the basic principles of rig tuning
Preventive maintenance – what do I check and how?
Ideas for improving rigging and fittings – what could be done better, easier, or more safely?
Other wires, such as lifelines – when should they be replaced?

The event is free, but please register in advance so we can set up the space according to the number of participants. Do you have a question about the sails, rigging, or hardware on your own boat? Send your question to us in advance – we will try to include them in the evening’s content.

Questions to email: miikka@kilpapurjehtimaan.fi.

Warm welcome to join us! Please note the event will be in Finnish.
