EPS Sailors Shine in the Helsinki–Tallinn Race
Espoon Pursiseura (EPS) yachts were once again strongly represented in the Helsinki–Tallinn Race held in August. The club’s sailors secured several podium finishes across different FinRating classes as well as the Nautor’s Swan class, demonstrating the high standard and active offshore racing culture within EPS.
The standout EPS performance came from Speculator (Finngulf 41), skippered by Ari Ojala, who sailed to victory in the FinRating 1 class. The class win was secured convincingly with a margin of more than six minutes over the next competitor. In the same class, Touch Down (J/V One Off), skippered by Hannu Hiillos, claimed an excellent third place, completing a strong EPS presence on the podium.
EPS sailors also featured prominently at the front of the fleet in the FinRating 2 class. Inferna (First 35), skippered by Arttu Hult, finished in second place and earned a silver medal position for the club in a highly competitive class. In FinRating 3, Angela (Dehler 34), skippered by Ville Hankalin, also secured a runner-up finish and another silver medal for EPS.
In the prestigious Nautor’s Swan class, Cygnus (Swan 38 S&S), skippered by EPS sailor Michihito Mizutani, finished third, adding yet another podium result to the club’s tally. In FinRating 4, Alex Sunberg’s Sun Fast 32i, the sole EPS representative in the class, placed 15th.
Overall, Espoon Pursiseura sailors achieved one class victory, two second-place finishes, and two third-place finishes in the race. These results demonstrate that EPS boats remain competitive across nearly all rating classes and confirm the club’s position as one of the strongest contenders in offshore sailing on the Gulf of Finland, including in the internationally renowned Helsinki–Tallinn Race.
